Several streams drain into the lake, but it has no outlet, so intense evaporation during the dry seasons leads to the water becoming extremely salty
The katwe salt lake tour gives our visitors a unique insight into the fascinating yet tough process of salt mining, as well as providing an alternative income for katwe local communities. Visitors also pass the nearby bird sanctuary Lake, home to thousands of birds including flamingoes from October to May.
